Exploring Cloud options for Railway Infrastructure Managers

If you are on the fearful side, whenever someone mentions a cloud solution we are here to tell you: it’s not so bad. Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of system resources such as data storage and computing power. They are made available without active management by the user. We use the term “cloud” mostly to describe data centers that are available over the Internet. Data Centers running tmc applications can be deployed in various ways. We support your individual deployment needs.

Advantages

Before showing you our cloud deployment options, let us bust some common myths. The Covid pandemic has accelerated cloud adoption and made it the “new normal”. There is no internet without cloud computing. If you’re using Spotify, Netflix or amazon, you’re already walking on clouds. Now let’s look at the advantages the cloud can bring as you are on the way towards digitalizing your railway infrastructure and maintenance efforts.

  1. Pay what you need
Applications are becoming more and more data storage and computing power hungry. Instead of individual hardware investments in computers you can now bundle and purchase exactly the resources you need from a Cloud vendor. If your needs change, your subscription will too – that way you can avoid overspendings in IT.
  2. Regional approach
The wide-spread believe of not knowing where your data is stored keeps coming up in our conversations with customers. All Cloud vendors have long taken note of this concern and are now supporting regional solutions, i.e. you can always define where the data storage and computing power is located. Hence, you’ll always know exactly where your data is stored.
  3. Highest Security
Your IT is investing into security and protection of your corporate digital assets. The large Cloud vendors like Google, Microsoft and amazon are all running massive security protections solutions, outpacing any investment a corporation can afford.

On a side note to security: the biggest security concern isn’t technology. Computer are no humans, and all security mechanisms point out that the biggest risk is within anyone’s own organization. Security is far more than a technical solution. An end-to-end security assessment can highlight these risks.
