Data Science on the Internet of Rails
The Internet of Things (IoT), the digital network of devices, is a key element in the current wave of digitisation. By 2020, more than 20 billion devices will be networked, including trains, the railway infrastructure and track construction and maintenance machines.
As the “Internet of Rails” evolves, the amount of available data will increase rapidly. Big Data is created, but nothing is gained from it yet. It takes intelligent analyses and interpretations to provide what Data Science requires: Smart Data - system-level information that is used to generate specific recommendations for maintenance actions.
